The Ministry of Education is urging schools to follow the statement sent by the Ministry which states that all schools that are run by Hindu faith-based organisations will be closed to observe the festivals of Holi and Ram Naumi.

This is after an email sent by the Senior Education Officer Nadroga-Nadi which stated that only schools that are run by TISI Sangam will be closed for Holi and Ram Naumi celebrations created confusion among schools in that area.

The Ministry has confirmed that all Hindu schools which are run by faith-based organizations will be closed.

The National Federation Party had earlier written to the Ministry and called on them to clear the confusion.

NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad says the e-mail from the officer to schools in those two districts had made matters more confusing.

Prasad says the officer had misinterpreted the contents of the Ministry’s statement by saying that only TISI Sangam run schools would close down to observe the two festivals while other schools should remain open.

Holi will be celebrated on the 10th of this month while Ram Naumi will be celebrated on the 2nd of next month.
